JEPARA — The annual Perang Obor cultural festival in Tegalsambi Village, Tahunan District, Jepara, once again attracted the attention of international tourists.

During the 2026 celebration, several visitors from India were seen enjoying, the unique fire-themed cultural performance.

The sparks and flames from burning torches clashing in the middle of the crowd, created a dramatic and unforgettable atmosphere, for foreign visitors witnessing the tradition for the first time.

One of the tourists from India, Ansarudheen (39), said he was deeply impressed by the performance and the spirit of the local community.

“It was a very good experience. The performance was amazing,” he said.

He added that the friendliness of Indonesian people and the richness of local culture, gave him a memorable first impression of the country.

“My first impression in Indonesia is very positive. The people are very good and the culture is beautiful,” he explained.

Another visitor from India, Yasararafath (35), also shared his admiration after attending the event. Having spent three months in Indonesia, he described Perang Obor as one of the most memorable cultural moments he had experienced.

“Good, wonderful. This is a very special moment for me,” he said.

The presence of international tourists at Perang Obor 2026 highlighted the growing global interest in Jepara’s cultural heritage.

The tradition not only serves as a sacred local ritual but also strengthens Jepara’s image as a cultural tourism destination in Central Java.

Perang Obor itself is a centuries-old tradition held as an expression of gratitude and prayers for safety, prosperity, and blessings.

The cultural attraction has been officially recognized as an Indonesian Intangible Cultural Heritage and is currently being encouraged to become part of Indonesia’s leading national tourism events.(fik)
